The Dolcetto

DOGLIANI DOCG "Doujot"

From the Latin “dolium,” the name by which the ancient Romans called the small amphora used to hold wine, comes the dialect term DOUJOT.
Some historians trace the original name of the town of Dogliani to “Dolianum,” just from “dolium” to indicate a place rich in vineyards.

DOGLIANI DOCG " SanMate' "

The earliest references to the dolcetto grape variety date back to a resolution of the Dogliani municipality in 1593. That document reads, “Niurno ardischi di qua della festa di San Matteo vindimmiar le uve e se qualcuno necessità ad altra sua stima vorrà vindimmiar qualche dosetto o altre uve dovrà prendere licenza al deputato.” The feast of St. Matthew, September 21 marked the date of the grape harvest. As a testimony to this tradition, SanMate’ was born.
